French double-manual harpsichord by Michael Cole, 1990

One of several French double-manual harpsichords made by Michael Cole, this one is a close copy of one made by Benoist Stehlin in Paris in 1760, from drawings supplied by the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC. It has two unisons and octave strings, a buff stop, and shove coupler. The legs are fluted and gilded and have carved capitals. Plainer or more elaborate decorative finishes are provided according to the price constraints. (On the previous page is the plainest version without carving or fluting of the legs, and a plain painted finish). These instruments by Michael Cole have been used in many of the best professional concerts at venues throughout the UK.
